The Senate of Federal University Dutse in Jigawa State has approved the expulsion of 20 students and the suspension of 15 others for engaging in examination malpractice.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the university’s Director of Public Affairs, Abdullahi Yahaya-Bello.
The statement was signed by the Director of Academic Affairs, Nora Dannatta.
According to the university, the sanctions followed recommendations submitted by the Senate Committee on Examination Misconduct for the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic session.
The statement also noted that two students who were previously under investigation were cleared after the review of their cases, while three others received formal written warnings.
It added that the disciplinary actions were taken in line with the institution’s rules guiding offences and penalties for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The university explained that the affected students were drawn from different faculties and departments across the institution.
In a related development earlier reported by PUNCH Online, the University of Abuja expelled 28 students for various offences, including cult-related activities, examination malpractice, drug possession and threats to life.
The institution said investigations established that the affected students were involved in serious misconduct such as assault, conspiracy, burglary, theft, falsification of ‘O’ Level results uploaded on the university admission portal, as well as possession and use of hard drugs.
