The tussle over Osun State’s local government allocations has taken a dramatic turn, with an Oyo State High Court ordering the freezing of 30 United Bank for Africa (UBA) accounts linked to the ousted All Progressives Congress (APC) council chairmen.
In a ruling delivered on Thursday, October 2, 2025, Justice A. L. Akintola, sitting in Ibadan, granted an interim injunction that effectively shut the door on the sacked APC officials’ bid to access billions in statutory allocations.
The order, signed by Principal Registrar B. O. Somide and certified on Friday, was secured by the 30 currently elected council chairmen, who argued that only swift judicial intervention could stop the funds from being siphoned.
The court’s directives were explicit: UBA must immediately place a “Post No Debit” lien on the disputed accounts and refrain from paying out, releasing, or tampering with the allocations already lodged by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The claimants, led by Sarafadeen Awotunde and represented by counsel Olalekan Adeoye (Suit No. 1/1167/2025), contended that the ousted chairmen were making moves to illegally dissipate the funds. Justice Akintola, concurring, warned that any delay in court action could cause “irreversible harm” to the lawful administrations now in place across Osun’s 30 councils.
“This court is satisfied that the applicants have successfully made out a case for urgent and timely intervention,” the judge declared.
The affected accounts cover every local government in the state, from Atakumosa East to Osogbo, each specifically listed in the order with corresponding UBA account numbers.
This fresh freeze mirrors an earlier injunction secured just last week by the Osun State Attorney-General against the same accounts, signaling a coordinated legal blockade against the APC faction.
The substantive motion on notice for interlocutory injunction has been adjourned to October 9, 2025, when the court will decide whether to extend or vacate the restrictions.
