Former presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has condemned the persistent wave of terrorist attacks in Nigeria, accusing politicians of prioritising personal political ambitions over the urgent need to tackle insecurity across the country.
Obi made the remarks on Friday via X, reacting to a recent assault on Ngoshe community in Borno State, which reportedly targeted both a military facility and an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp.
The attack claimed the lives of soldiers and civilians, with several others reported missing.
Describing the incident as “horrific,” the former Anambra State governor said he had watched multiple videos of the aftermath, noting that it served as a painful reminder of the daily suffering endured by Nigerians.
He criticised political leaders for focusing on strategies for the 2027 elections while failing to address the rising insecurity that continues to claim lives nationwide.
“How long will Nigerians continue to bear the consequences of poor leadership and mismanagement? How many more lives must be lost before decisive action is taken to secure our communities, protect the vulnerable, and dismantle the structures of these insurgents?” Obi questioned.
He further accused politicians of being “preoccupied with selfish schemings on how to manipulate the next election cycle,” warning that such distractions perpetuate insecurity, poverty, and underdevelopment in the country.
