Three people have been killed and 11 others injured following a bandit attack on Jikamashi town in Musawa Local Government Area, Katsina State, the police said on Wednesday.
DSP Aliyu Abubakar, the state police public relations officer, disclosed the incident in a statement issued in Katsina.
According to him, the attack occurred around 6:05 p.m. on March 10, when the Musawa Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call that armed bandits were attacking residents in Jikamashi village.
“The bandits had already wounded 14 people before security personnel arrived at the scene,” Abubakar said, adding that the attackers were heavily armed.
He explained that a combined team of security operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer in Musawa, was immediately dispatched to confront the assailants.
“The operatives engaged the bandits in a gunfight, successfully halting the attack and preventing further casualties,” he added.
The injured were taken to a nearby hospital, but three victims later died, while the remaining 11 are receiving treatment and responding to medical care, the statement said.
DSP Abubakar noted that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Bello Shehu, condemned the attack and directed a full investigation to ensure the perpetrators are caught and prosecuted.
The police assured the community that they would intensify patrols and maintain vigilance to curb future attacks.
Residents were also urged to report suspicious activities promptly to security agencies to help prevent further incidents.
