A Nnewi-based native doctor, Ikechukwu John Paul, popularly known as Aka Mmuo, has appealed to the Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, to grant him forgiveness following his arrest by local security operatives.
The suspect was apprehended by operatives of Agunechemba Security Outfit over allegations that he carried out ritual practices believed to aid internet fraudsters in defrauding unsuspecting victims.
According to reports, the suspect was taken by the operatives to a river in the area on Friday, where he allegedly conducted ritual activities linked to his operations.
Security sources claimed the native doctor was involved in performing spiritual baths and other rituals for individuals popularly referred to as “Yahoo boys,” who are associated with internet fraud.
While being paraded by the security outfit, Aka Mmuo publicly pleaded with the state government for leniency, insisting that he had learned from the experience.
“I want to plead with our able governor, Professor Charles Soludo and all citizens of Anambra State. I didn’t know how the law works,” he said.
The native doctor further promised to stop engaging in the alleged practices if granted mercy by the authorities.
“I will never go to the river to make sacrifices again. I’m pleading with the governor and the Anambra government that there is a means of forgiveness, they should forgive me. I will never do it again,” he added.
The arrest comes amid the Anambra State Government’s intensified efforts to clamp down on criminal activities and ritual practices believed to encourage internet fraud in the state.
