Reno Omokri has warned that Atiku Abubakar could risk losing political support in Adamawa State if he selects Peter Obi as his running mate in the 2027 presidential election.
Omokri made the statement in a post on X while reacting to comments by media entrepreneur Dele Momodu, who had suggested during an appearance on Sunday Politics that an Atiku–Obi ticket could defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next election.
While expressing respect for Atiku, Omokri argued that choosing Obi could alienate voters in Northern Nigeria, where he said religion and past political experiences often influence electoral decisions. According to him, such a move could weaken Atiku’s support base even in his home state.
Omokri also referenced past incidents, including the 2021 killing of Ahmed Gulak in Owerri, claiming that Obi’s reaction at the time generated resentment among some residents of the North. He further mentioned the 2022 killing of a pregnant woman, Harira Jubril, and her children in Anambra State as part of issues that have influenced political perceptions.
He concluded by urging political leaders to remain sensitive to Nigeria’s religious and ethnic diversity when forming alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
