Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State have arrested a suspected cult leader, Akinwale Tomiwa, popularly known as “Bella”, during an intelligence-driven operation in Akure.
The suspect, who had reportedly been on the police wanted list, was apprehended by the Special Anti-Cultism Squad of the state police command after intelligence indicated his presence near NEPA Junction.
Police authorities alleged that Tomiwa was the leader of the notorious Eiye Confraternity operating around Rufus Giwa Polytechnic and nearby communities in Owo.
Preliminary investigations reportedly linked the suspect to the killing of Ojo Peter on December 12, 2025, during violent clashes between rival cult groups around the polytechnic.
During the arrest, officers recovered items suspected to be charms allegedly used for intimidation and protection during cult activities.
Police said the suspect has been charged to court on multiple counts, including murder, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle violent cult networks in the state. Authorities also urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to assist security agencies in tackling cultism and other crimes.
