The Abia State Police Command has arrested a butcher accused of stabbing a customer in the neck during a dispute over the price of meat in Umuahia.
The incident reportedly occurred at the Orie Ugba Market in the state capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Monday.
Chinaka explained that the altercation between the butcher and the customer escalated, leading to the suspect allegedly attacking the victim with a pair of scissors.
According to her, operatives from the Central Police Station swiftly responded to the incident after receiving a report and visited the scene.
She added that the injured customer was immediately taken to a hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment and responding to medical care.
“The Abia State Police Command is aware of the incident that occurred at Orieugba Market on March 14, 2026, where a meat seller allegedly stabbed his customer in the neck with scissors following a disagreement over the price of meat,” she said.
The police spokesperson noted that the suspect is currently in custody while investigation into the matter continues.
She further stated that the suspect would be prosecuted after the completion of the investigation.
