Former students of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO), Owo, have raised concerns over the prolonged delay in receiving their academic certificates, saying it has negatively affected their career and further education plans.
The graduates, who completed their studies between 2014 and 2021, said efforts to collect their certificates from the institution have been unsuccessful, leaving many unable to secure jobs or advance professionally.
One of the affected alumni, Mr Adeniyi Fadeyi, described the situation as frustrating. He said he had fulfilled all clearance requirements but was yet to receive his certificate.
“I graduated in 2019 and completed my clearance long ago. When I visited the school in April 2025, I was told there was no paper to print the certificate. Since then, nothing has changed,” Fadeyi said.
Mrs Aina Waremi, another graduate, also expressed exasperation, saying she had travelled from Lagos to Owo several times but returned without her certificate.
“I’ve made more than five trips to the polytechnic. Each time, I am given a different reason, yet I still leave empty-handed. The cost and effort are draining,” she lamented.
The polytechnic’s management confirmed the delay but stated it was not due to a shortage of printing materials.
Mr Olumide Olugosi, the institution’s Public Relations and Protocol Officer, explained that the previous batch of certificates had been used up.
Olugosi added that new certificates have been ordered and would be issued once available.
He apologised to affected graduates for the inconvenience and appealed for their patience.
