BREAKING: Deadly bomb blasts hit Maiduguri, many feared dead

Panic gripped parts of Maiduguri, Borno State, on Monday evening as explosions rocked Monday Market and a security post near the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, leaving several people feared dead.

The blasts reportedly occurred almost at the same time, around 7:02 p.m., throwing residents into chaos. Many injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Mohammed Kafaran, Head of Operations of the Federal Fire Service in Borno, confirmed the explosions and said rescue teams had been dispatched to the affected sites. “We have deployed our personnel to assess the situation. Updates will follow shortly,” he said.

Eyewitnesses described harrowing scenes, with some saying bodies and wounded victims were strewn across the areas. “There were dead bodies on the ground, and many injured were taken to the State Specialist Hospital,” one witness said.

A resident, who declined to be named, recounted the terrifying moment the bombs went off. “I had just left the post office when I heard a massive blast. It was shocking,” he said.

Emergency services continue to work at the scenes, and authorities are yet to release official casualty figures. Security has been heightened as investigations into the attacks get underway.
