Blind man arrested in Niger for allegedly abusing 10-year-old niece

A 59-year-old blind man, Julius Nyikwa, has been taken into custody by the Niger State Police over allegations of sexually abusing his 10-year-old niece, who lives in the same family compound.

Reports gathered by Arewa PUNCH indicate that the incident occurred on February 16, 2026, at Keteren-Gwari, Minna.

Sources said Nyikwa allegedly lured the girl, his wife’s niece, into his room on several occasions.

The suspect’s wife is the maternal aunt of the victim, and both families reside within the same compound.

The abuse was reportedly uncovered when the girl’s grandmother raised an alarm during the latest incident, prompting neighbours to intervene and leading to Nyikwa’s arrest.

Niger State Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the arrest and stated that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigations.

He assured that the suspect would face prosecution in court once inquiries are completed.
