Charles Chukwuma Soludo has been sworn in for a second term as governor of Anambra State following his victory in the 2025 governorship election.
The inauguration ceremony took place on Tuesday at the newly renovated Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the state capital, where Soludo took the oath of office alongside his deputy, Onyeka Ibezim.
The event attracted several prominent political figures including Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, as well as former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku.
Also present at the ceremony was Siminalayi Fubara and other state governors and dignitaries from across the country.
Soludo secured re-election after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared him winner of the November 8, 2025 governorship election in the state. He polled 422,664 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress, who scored 99,445 votes.
The candidate of the Young Progressives Party, Paul Chukwuma, finished third with 37,753 votes.
According to INEC, 16 candidates contested in the election across the state’s 21 local government areas. Out of 2,788,864 registered voters, 598,229 were accredited, while 595,298 votes were cast with 11,244 rejected ballots.
Soludo, representing APGA, recorded a landslide victory by winning in all 21 local government areas of the state, securing his mandate for another four-year term in office.
