Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning Afrofusion artist, recently paid a courtesy visit to Siminalayi Fubara at the government house in Port Harcourt.
In photos that have gone viral online, the singer was seen dressed in a dark blue kaftan, standing beside the governor. He was accompanied by his father, Samuel Ogulu, and music executive Soso Soberekon.
The purpose of the visit has not been publicly disclosed. This is not the first time the Rivers-born artist has been hosted by a state governor. In 2021, Burna Boy visited the Port Harcourt government house when Nyesom Wike was in office.
Following his Grammy win that year for Best World Music Album for Twice As Tall, Burna Boy was awarded the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State (DSSRS), the state’s second-highest honour. During his homecoming concert, then-Governor Wike also gave N10 million each to the artists who performed.
Born Damini Ogulu, Burna Boy rose to fame in 2013 with the hit single “Like to Party” from his debut album L.I.F.E. Since then, he has become one of Africa’s most prominent music stars, known for blending genres and producing chart-topping albums.
The visit adds to a growing list of interactions between Nigerian music stars and political leaders, highlighting the influence of cultural icons in state engagements.
