Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria following a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between both nations.
The president arrived in Nigeria on Friday alongside the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, after concluding the official trip which took place from March 18 to 19, 2026.
A video shared by Sunday Dare showed the presidential aircraft touching down, with top government officials present to welcome the couple, including Godswill Akpabio.
Tinubu’s visit marked the first formal state visit by a Nigerian president to the United Kingdom in 37 years, with the last recorded trip taking place in 1989.
During the visit, the Nigerian leader was received by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle, where they hosted a ceremonial reception and state banquet in honour of the visiting delegation.
In his remarks at the banquet, Tinubu reflected on the protection he received in the United Kingdom during Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle under military rule, while reaffirming the enduring relationship between the two countries.
The president also held a high-level bilateral meeting with Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street to discuss areas of cooperation between Nigeria and Britain.
Among the outcomes of the visit was the signing of a £746 million financing agreement involving UK Export Finance, the Nigerian Ports Authority, and the Federal Ministry of Finance Nigeria to support port infrastructure development.
Both countries also signed a migration agreement to facilitate the return of failed Nigerian asylum seekers, visa overstayers, and convicted offenders from the United Kingdom.
