An official of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ogun State, Abass Olalekan, has been taken into police custody following the death of a female corps member, Victoria Ariyo, in Abeokuta.
Ariyo was reportedly serving in Abeokuta South Local Government Area at the time of the incident.
According to local reports on Thursday, March 19, 2026, she died on Tuesday, March 17, after complications allegedly linked to a terminated pregnancy.
She was subsequently buried at Kobape Cemetery along the Kobape Sagamu Road.
The authorities have detained Olalekan as part of an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The incident has attracted heightened concern as it comes just weeks after another female corps member, Adeleye Mary, reportedly died under unclear circumstances within the same local government area.
However, there is currently no official indication that both cases are connected.
The development has sparked concerns over the welfare and safety of corps members, particularly those deployed far from their home states.
