Shettima to Officially Receive Zamfara Governor into APC

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, is expected to visit Zamfara State on Tuesday to formally welcome the state governor, Dauda Lawal, into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made by the Zamfara APC chairman, Tukur Danfulani Maikatako, during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Gusau on Saturday.

Maikatako expressed satisfaction over the governor’s defection to the ruling party, noting that the vice president and other national leaders of the APC would attend the event marking Lawal’s return to the party.

According to him, Zamfara has historically been a stronghold of the APC, and the governor was once a member of the party before leaving for another political platform.

He urged party members across the state’s 147 wards and 14 local government areas to come out in large numbers to welcome the vice president during the visit.

Maikatako also called on members to set aside internal divisions and work together to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 Nigerian general election.

Speaking at the meeting, former state APC chairman Lawal M. Liman also appealed to party supporters to mobilise members at the grassroots level, stressing the need for unity within the party.

He added that APC members across the state should spread the message of the governor’s defection and work collectively toward ensuring the success of the party in future elections.
