Veteran actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, famously known for his decades-long role as Papa Ajasco, has officially announced a rebranding of his public persona.
In a video shared on his Instagram page on Saturday, Ayoyinka introduced himself under a new stage name, Bondu Alaska.
The declaration comes amid recent claims by the actor that he was financially struggling, as well as a public disagreement with Wale Adenuga, founder of Wale Adenuga Productions, over the use of the “Papa Ajasco” brand.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, good morning Nigerians. My name is Bondu Alaska. The one and only Bondu Alaska,” he declared in the viral clip.
Expressing gratitude to Nigerians for their support following a viral interview, Ayoyinka added, “I want to use this medium to thank Nigerians because they have done a lot in my life. I’m a new person now, and I promise that I will not let you down.”
As part of his rebranding, the actor has changed his Instagram handle to @bondualaska_ and encouraged fans and brands to engage with him under the new identity.
Despite the move, many fans expressed attachment to the Papa Ajasco brand.
One user, hhenriey, commented, “You are Papa Ajasco, not Bondu Alaska. We’ll help you spread it to the world.”
Another fan, official_igbalodedjpizzle, joked, “Na Papa Ajasco.
Nothing wey you wan tell him cuz NEPA na still NEPA.”
The rebranding appears to be linked to legal constraints surrounding his former role.
Wale Adenuga previously described Ayoyinka’s claims of being “broke” as “misleading” and “untrue,” noting that the actor had benefited from various incentives over the years, including multiple vehicles.
Adenuga clarified that while the Papa Ajasco brand must be protected from “inappropriate usage,” the actors were never prohibited from taking independent work outside the show.
