Governors of the All Progressives Congress, operating under the Progressive Governors’ Forum, gathered in Lagos on Sunday for a crucial meeting as preparations intensify for the party’s governorship primaries scheduled for next month.
The session, held at the Eko Hotel in Victoria Island, came shortly after the governors paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at his Ikoyi residence.
During the visit, they commended him on the outcome of his recent official trip to the United Kingdom as well as the Eid-el-Fitr festivities.
Out of the 31 APC governors expected at the meeting, about 21 had arrived as of 9:40 p.m.
Insiders disclosed that discussions would largely focus on ensuring a smooth, transparent, and dispute-free conduct of the party’s forthcoming primaries.
The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, while Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, served as host.
Governors present included Mai Mala Buni, Dapo Abiodun, Sheriff Oborevwori, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Bassey Otu, Agbu Kefas, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Monday Okpebholo.
Also in attendance were Umo Eno, Abdullahi Sule, Siminalayi Fubara, Usman Ododo, Francis Nwifuru, Caleb Mutfwang, Abba Yusuf, Umaru Bago, Peter Mbah, Umar Namadi, Dikko Umaru Radda and Douye Diri.)
A communiqué is expected to be issued at the end of the deliberations.
