Abdulaziz Nyako, former senator and 2019 governorship candidate under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has formally rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Nyako, who represented Adamawa Central Senatorial District between 2015 and 2019, announced his return on Saturday when Governor Ahmadu Fintiri visited his residence in Yola, the state capital.
“I have returned to the APC,” Nyako, widely known as ‘Commander,’ told journalists at the event.
Governor Fintiri described Nyako as a key political figure whose membership would boost the party’s influence in the state.
“Bringing strong personalities like Commander Nyako on board is essential for building APC in Adamawa and developing leaders who can support the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” Fintiri said.
He added that Nyako is now a fully recognised APC member.
Nyako, son of former Governor Murtala Nyako, initially entered the Senate on the APC platform before moving to the ADC, where he later contested the governorship in 2019.
The Adamawa Central Senatorial District, which he represented, includes seven local government areas.
The ADC in the state had recently been weakened by internal disputes, with factions loyal to former SGF Babachir Lawal and ex-senator Aishatu Dahiru contesting the party’s leadership.
