An explosion suspected to be caused by an improvised explosive device has reportedly claimed several lives in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The blast, which occurred on Monday, sparked fear among residents, many of whom attributed the incident to suspected terrorist activity, although no group has come forward to claim responsibility.
The incident is the latest in a series of violent attacks in the area. Locals recalled that about 75 persons lost their lives, while numerous houses were destroyed, during coordinated assaults on Woro and nearby Nuku communities in recent weeks.
Following the earlier attacks, President Bola Tinubu had ordered the deployment of military personnel to the affected communities to curb further violence and restore peace.
As of press time, there had been no official confirmation or statement from relevant authorities regarding the latest explosion.
Attempts to get a reaction from the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to her phone were not answered.
