Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has clarified that the recent meeting of governors in Lagos was convened to update President Bola Tinubu on security issues and align positions ahead of the All Progressives Congress convention.
The governor made this known on Monday in Abuja during activities surrounding his conferment as Patron of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations.
Sule said discussions with the President were extensive, with particular attention given to the country’s security situation, after which the governors proceeded to deliberate on party affairs.
He added that the engagements lasted several hours into the night, as governors also fine-tuned plans ahead of the APC convention.
The Nasarawa governor explained that the tight schedule from the Lagos trip made it impossible for him to return to Lafia for the ceremony, necessitating a shift of the event to Abuja.
He expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to stakeholders in the state, noting that the decision was taken due to unavoidable circumstances.
The PUNCH reports that APC governors had assembled in Lagos on Sunday for a strategic meeting ahead of forthcoming governorship primaries, following a prior visit to the President at his Ikoyi residence.
The session took place at Eko Hotel and Suites and was led by Hope Uzodimma, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, while Babajide Sanwo-Olu hosted the gathering.
Speaking further, Sule commended the institute for its contributions to leadership development, stressing that strong and visionary leadership remains essential for Nigeria’s growth.
In his remarks, the institute’s President, Ike Neliaku, applauded Sule’s support and highlighted improvements in governance perception in Nasarawa State in recent evaluations.
