A Nigerian living in the United Kingdom, Mr. Emmanuel Opeyemi Makinde, has been granted permission by the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Jabi, to testify virtually in a case involving an alleged marriage fraud.
Justice Ademuyiwa Oyeyipo scheduled May 7, 2026, for Makinde to provide his evidence online, citing his overseas location.
The defendant, travel agent Mr. Waliyu Aderibigbe Shitta, is accused of arranging a fake marriage for Miss Dolapo Afusat Yusuf to enable her travel abroad, using Makinde’s identity.
The court’s ruling followed a motion filed by the Inspector-General of Police seeking approval for Makinde, the complainant, to give his testimony from the UK.
ASP Monday Onoja, the Investigating Police Officer, told the court that Shitta could not produce the marriage certificate allegedly used for Yusuf’s travel. He added that the document was reportedly deleted from the office system and that a request sent to the British High Commission for the certificate has not yet been answered.
The trial continues as the court awaits Makinde’s virtual testimony next month, highlighting the use of online evidence in cases with international elements.
