Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, the mother of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has died.
Her death was made public on Friday through a Facebook post by her grandson, who disclosed that she passed away earlier in the day.
Announcing the loss, he wrote, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. From Allah we came and to Him we shall return.
I hereby announce the passing of my grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who died a few hours ago.”
He noted that the deceased was the mother of the former governor and prayed for Allah’s mercy upon her, while also requesting prayers for the family.
“We appreciate God for the life she lived and pray that He grants her eternal rest. We also seek prayers for all departed members of our family,” he added.
As of the time of this report, details regarding the cause of her death were yet to be disclosed.
Her passing comes at a time when El-Rufai is facing legal challenges and is in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission after being re-arrested following an earlier detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
