President Bola Tinubu on Friday paid tribute to former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a key figure in the formation of the All Progressives Congress whose legacy continues to influence the party’s path.
Tinubu spoke at the APC’s 4th Elective National Convention held in Abuja, where he led party faithful in observing a minute of silence in honour of Buhari and other deceased leaders of the party.
He referred to Buhari as the first leader and the first elected president produced by the APC, urging members to reflect on his contributions and sacrifices.
The President noted that the efforts of Buhari and other founding members were instrumental in establishing the APC as a dominant political platform in Nigeria, stressing the importance of preserving their vision.
According to him, both past and present members share a responsibility to sustain the ideals upon which the party was built, warning against actions that could undermine its unity.
Tinubu stated that the party was not founded on division or personal interests, but on collective commitment to national progress and political stability.
He called on party members to honour the memory of Buhari and other departed leaders by promoting unity, discipline, and dedication within the APC.
The President added that strengthening internal cohesion and remaining faithful to the party’s founding principles would be the most meaningful way to preserve the legacy of its pioneers.
