President Bola Tinubu has announced that all his earnings since assuming office will be channelled into a newly created fund to support personnel of the Armed Forces, including those injured in service and relatives of deceased soldiers.
The declaration formed part of activities marking his 74th birthday, during which he also approved the establishment of a dedicated account for the initiative.
Tinubu said he had instructed the Accountant-General of the Federation to set up the account to manage contributions meant for the welfare of serving and fallen military personnel.
He explained that the fund would provide assistance to officers wounded in the line of duty and offer support to families of those who paid the supreme price while defending the nation.
Highlighting the rationale behind the move, the President said the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces must be recognised and adequately supported.
Tinubu added that his personal salaries since inauguration would serve as the foundation for the fund, stressing that the intervention would complement existing welfare arrangements for military personnel.
He further appealed to governors, federal lawmakers, private sector stakeholders and other well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the initiative once details of the account are made public.
The President maintained that the gesture underscores a national responsibility to stand by those who risk their lives for the country and the loved ones they leave behind.
