Former Plateau State governors, Jonah Jang and Simon Lalong, have pledged to join forces to confront the escalating security crisis in the state, signaling a rare show of political solidarity.
The commitment was made on Thursday in Jos during President Bola Tinubu’s visit, which followed a deadly attack on Sunday in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, that claimed 28 lives and left several others injured.
Jang described the latest incident as “one too many,” stressing that persistent violence threatens the state’s economic stability and could disrupt the 2027 general elections.
He noted that previous administrations, including those led by Joshua Dariye, himself, and Lalong, had faced similar challenges, but insisted that current leaders must unite to resist attempts to destabilise the state.
The former governor also urged President Tinubu to hold a special session with Plateau stakeholders to devise practical solutions, emphasizing the need for prompt and decisive action to restore security.
Supporting Jang, Lalong, now a senator representing Plateau South, decried the enduring security problems, recalling the challenges he encountered both as Speaker of the House of Assembly and as governor.
He said lasting peace would only be achievable through collaboration among the state’s leaders.
