At least 11 people have been killed and over 50 houses destroyed following a violent communal clash in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
According to the police, the attack occurred in the Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities on Friday, allegedly carried out by suspected hoodlums. The violence is believed to be a reprisal for the earlier killing of two individuals linked to the attackers.
The spokesperson of the state police command, Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident and stated that the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, visited the affected communities to assess the situation and sympathise with victims.
He assured residents that security agencies are taking decisive action, including launching a manhunt to identify and arrest those responsible. Additional police officers, alongside the military and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, have been deployed to restore order and prevent further violence.
Authorities also urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with ongoing investigations, and provide useful information that could aid security efforts.
The police say normalcy has been restored in the area, with measures in place to ensure lasting peace.
