A 27-year-old man, Kabiru Nuhu, has been arrested by the Jigawa State Police Command for allegedly setting his father on fire in Kazaure Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on April 1, 2026, in Magama Quarters, Kazaure town. According to the police, the suspect is accused of pouring a petroleum-based substance on his 60-year-old father before setting him ablaze.
Police spokesperson Shi’isu Adam said officers responded swiftly after receiving a distress call and found the victim in critical condition. The suspect was also discovered at the scene with burn injuries.
The victim was rushed to a hospital but later died while receiving treatment.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect has been taken into custody and will be charged with patricide. He is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Haruna Yahaya, condemned the act and assured that justice would be served. He also urged residents to resolve conflicts peacefully and report signs of domestic violence to security agencies.
