The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a public warning against one Barry Donald, a dismissed officer allegedly impersonating the agency to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, the DSS said Donald has been engaging in fraudulent activities, using the agency’s name to dupe members of the public.
“The Service wishes to inform the public that one Barry Donald, a dismissed staff, has been engaging in unscrupulous activities, including using the name of the Service to defraud unsuspecting members of the public,” the DSS stated.
The Service urged Nigerians to avoid any dealings or transactions with the impostor, emphasizing that it would not be held responsible for losses incurred through such illegal engagements.
“Members of the public are therefore advised to desist from any dealings with him,” the DSS added.

The DSS reiterated its commitment to protecting Nigerians from criminal impersonation and maintaining institutional integrity.
Meanwhile, PUNCH Online earlier reported that the DSS leadership in Niger State recently expressed concern over the growing number of fake journalists operating in the state.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger State chapter, at the DSS office in Minna, the State Director, Usman Ibrahim, warned against impersonation within the media and urged journalists to uphold professionalism and ethics in their duties.
The DSS continues to caution the public to be vigilant, verify identities, and report suspicious activities to security agencies to help combat fraud and protect citizens from scams carried out under false identities.
