The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has declared its readiness to reclaim power in the 2027 general elections, stating that the party has emerged stronger and more united following its recent national convention.
The declaration was made during a post-convention rally held in Ilorin, where party supporters gathered in large numbers.
Addressing the crowd, the state chairman, Isa Adamu, described the rally as a turning point for both the party and the state.
“Today is not just another political gathering. It is a declaration that Kwara is ready for a new direction and that hope is alive again,” he said.
Adamu noted that the PDP had strengthened its internal structure after the convention in Abuja, positioning itself as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.
He added that the party was prepared to present capable candidates who would restore what he described as good governance in the state.
The PDP chairman, however, criticised the current administration, linking the state’s challenges to what he termed governance failures since the 2019 elections.
According to him, insecurity has worsened in parts of the state, while development has remained uneven.
“Insecurity has taken root in our communities. Killings and fear have become part of daily life,” he alleged.
Adamu also raised concerns about the condition of rural communities, stressing the need for policies that prioritise farmers, traders, and ordinary citizens.
He further alleged suppression of dissenting voices, claiming that some youths had been detained for criticising the government.
Calling for unity, Adamu urged members of other political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Accord Party, to join the PDP in rebuilding the state.
“This is your party. Together, we can build a government that truly serves the people,” he said.
The PDP previously governed Kwara State before losing power in the 2019 general elections under the “Otoge” political movement.
