Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Radda, on Monday convened an emergency Security Council meeting following renewed security concerns in parts of the state.
The meeting, currently holding at the Government House in Katsina, has in attendance heads of security agencies, local government chairmen from affected areas, and representatives of key national security institutions, including the Nigerian Army, Defence Headquarters, and the Department of State Services.
Also present are officials of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, Federal Fire Service, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, alongside top government functionaries.
The emergency session is coming on the heels of a bandits’ attack on Sayaya village in Matazu Local Government Area on Sunday, which claimed three lives, including a police officer.
Sources said the attackers stormed the community, launched an assault on a police station where the officer was killed, and proceeded to vandalise a Primary Health Care Centre while looting shops.
In response to the incident, the governor visited the affected community for an on-the-spot assessment of the damage and to commiserate with residents.
Radda also extended condolences to the police command and families of victims affected by the attack.
