Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has accused his erstwhile deputy, Aminu Abdussalam, of plotting to remove him from power and assume control of the state government.
The governor made the allegation on Friday while hosting a group of praise singers, Mawallafan Abba Gida Gida, at the Government House in Kano.
Abdussalam, also known as Gwarzo, had resigned from his position at a time the Kano State House of Assembly was considering impeachment proceedings against him. The process was subsequently discontinued following his exit.
Speaking during the visit, Yusuf disclosed that he had neither received nor sighted any official resignation letter from his former deputy, stressing that there was no offence committed by his administration to warrant such a move.
“Today, the deputy governor who came into office with us is no longer part of this administration. No one wronged him. I have not even seen his resignation letter, so there is no cause for concern,” he said.
He further alleged that Abdussalam’s actions were driven by an unsuccessful bid to unseat him and take over the reins of leadership in the state.
“His actions were aimed at removing me from office and occupying the seat, but that plan did not succeed,” Yusuf added.
The governor also questioned the treatment meted out to the former deputy within the Kwankwasiyya political movement, wondering why he was allegedly denied the opportunity he was seeking.
“The deputy governor who left in pursuit of a ticket what exactly did he do wrong? Why was he not given the opportunity? Is that fair?” he asked.
