The Nigerian Navy has detained some of its personnel following a physical confrontation with soldiers in Bayelsa State during President Bola Tinubu’s official visit on Friday.
The incident, which occurred as the President was leaving an event venue, drew widespread attention after a video surfaced online showing the confrontation.
In the footage, a disagreement was seen between a Naval Police driver and another military operative, which quickly escalated.
The naval officer was observed stepping out of a Hilux vehicle before engaging in a heated exchange.
Shortly after, a soldier approached and struck him, triggering a breakdown of order at the scene.
The clash spiralled into a fight involving personnel from both sides, as onlookers watched in shock.
The reason behind the altercation had yet to be established as of press time.
Reacting to the development, the Director of Naval Information, Commodore Abi Folorunso, confirmed that those involved had been taken into custody.
“The affected personnel are currently in custody and are undergoing necessary administrative and disciplinary actions in line with military regulations,” he stated.
