A governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Iyabo Obasanjo, has dismissed claims that she is contesting the 2027 election to secure a deputy governor or ministerial position.
The former senator, and daughter of ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo, stated that her ambition is solely to become governor and succeed incumbent governor Dapo Abiodun.
Speaking during a media engagement organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Abeokuta, she described reports suggesting otherwise as false and misleading.
Obasanjo emphasised that her campaign is driven by public goodwill rather than financial resources, noting that supporters have been contributing voluntarily to her campaign efforts.
“I am not interested in being a deputy governor or minister. I am in this race to be governor,” she said firmly.
She added that even if she does not win, she will remain active in politics while continuing her professional career as a teacher.
Obasanjo also revealed that she recently had a private meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the discussion as productive.
Reaffirming her stance, she maintained that her ambition is people-driven and rooted in trust, rather than financial influence, as political activities begin to build toward the 2027 elections.
