Residents of Imafon, Igushin, and Ilado communities in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State staged a protest on Saturday over worsening insecurity, blocking a major road in Akure and disrupting traffic.
The demonstrators gathered at the busy Shoprite junction, close to government offices, expressing anger over repeated attacks, killings, and kidnappings in their communities.
The protest followed a series of violent incidents, including the killing of a poultry farmer and her daughter during a failed kidnap attempt in Igushin. In a separate attack less than 24 hours later, a young man was abducted in Ilado and reportedly injured while trying to escape.
Speaking during the protest, a youth leader, Kunle, condemned the continuous violence and questioned the effectiveness of security measures in the state. He lamented that despite the allocation of security funds, residents have not seen any improvement in safety.
Protesters also criticised the lack of visible security presence, alleging that armed criminals operate freely, even near the state capital.
The residents vowed to continue their protest until authorities take decisive action to address the insecurity and protect lives and property in the affected communities.
