A media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Phrank Shaibu, has faulted remarks by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on the political strength of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Shaibu, who serves as Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to Atiku, said claims that the President enjoys a commanding advantage over opposition figures were exaggerated and out of touch with current realities.
The exchange followed a post by Keyamo on his verified X handle on Sunday, where he highlighted Tinubu’s political journey from opposition ranks to the presidency, describing it as a testament to his strategic prowess.
Reacting, Shaibu argued that past political victories do not automatically translate into effective governance, stressing that leadership should be measured by tangible outcomes.
According to him, Nigerians are more concerned about pressing socio-economic challenges than political narratives about past successes.
“Political achievements alone cannot substitute for performance in office. Governance is about delivering results that improve the lives of citizens,” he said.
He added that the perception of Tinubu’s political dominance was gradually weakening in the face of rising economic hardship, insecurity, and declining living standards across the country.
Shaibu further maintained that citizens are increasingly focused on issues such as inflation, safety, and welfare, insisting that these factors would ultimately shape public judgment ahead of future elections.
He warned that attempts to project an image of political superiority without corresponding improvements in governance could erode public confidence.
The aide concluded that leadership would be judged not by past political battles but by the ability to address the nation’s current challenges and improve the well-being of Nigerians.
