Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, on Monday appeared before the Kaduna State High Court for the continuation of his trial in a case brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
El-Rufai is facing trial alongside Amadu Sule over allegations of abuse of office, fraud, and other related offences.
Just before entering the courtroom, the former governor was heard speaking with an associate about the planned convention of the African Democratic Congress.
“Our convention is coming up tomorrow, right?” he asked, and the associate replied, “God willing,” indicating his ongoing interest in party affairs.
The matter before the state high court is one of two separate cases currently involving the former governor.
He is also standing trial at the Federal High Court in Kaduna on a 10-count charge that includes allegations of money laundering, fraud, and abuse of office.
The federal case involves funds said to be worth N579.6 million and $1.1 million.
A bail application in that case has been scheduled for hearing on April 14.
The ICPC is prosecuting both matters as part of its mandate to tackle corruption and financial misconduct.
Proceedings are expected to continue as the courts consider the charges against the defendants.
