The Presidency has criticised activist Omoyele Sowore over his plan to stage a protest march to the State House in Abuja, demanding the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 general elections, had announced that the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest would take place on October 20 at 7 a.m., describing it as a “historic” demonstration for Kanu’s release.
Reacting to the development, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his X handle, labelled Sowore “an anarchist masquerading as a rights activist.”
Onanuga accused the activist of attempting to stir unrest under the pretext of a peaceful protest against the government.
