All 13 passengers abducted from a Benue Links bus along the Makurdi–Otukpo road have regained their freedom after days in captivity.
Among those released were candidates of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board who were reportedly travelling to Otukpo to sit for their examinations when the incident occurred last Wednesday.
Sources disclosed that the victims were freed in the early hours of Sunday after spending about three days in the kidnappers’ den.
Although details of the operation that led to their release were yet to be made public, security operatives had intensified efforts in the area following the attack.
The victims were said to have been immediately evacuated after regaining freedom and taken to the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
The Benue State Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, confirmed the development and said the command would provide further details in due course.
