The New Nigeria People’s Party has announced the appointment of Bala Mohammed as its new National Chairman following the resignation of its former chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, who has defected to the African Democratic Congress.
The development, approved by the party’s National Working Committee, comes amid shifting alliances within opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, disclosed the change in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, describing Mohammed as a seasoned administrator with the capacity to lead the party through a complex political period.
He said the party acknowledged the exit of Ahmed and appreciated his contributions during his tenure.
“The National Working Committee of the NNPP announces the emergence of Bala Yunusa Mohammed as National Chairman. We also acknowledge the resignation of Dr Ajuji Ahmed and wish him well in his future political endeavours,” the statement read.
The party noted that the leadership transition comes at a critical time, citing prevailing economic challenges and heightened political activities ahead of the next election cycle.
It expressed confidence that the new chairman would reposition the party and strengthen its structures nationwide.
According to the statement, Mohammed’s emergence reflects efforts to consolidate the party’s base and enhance its readiness for future electoral contests.
The NNPP also called on its members and supporters to unite behind the new leadership as it intensifies preparations for the 2027 polls.
