United States President Donald Trump has accused Iran of violating a two-week ceasefire, warning of possible military action as tensions escalate in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump, in a post on social media on Sunday, alleged that Iranian forces carried out attacks on Saturday, in breach of the truce earlier agreed between both sides.
The US president said diplomatic efforts were still ongoing, disclosing that American negotiators are expected in Pakistan on Monday to resume talks aimed at ending the conflict.
He, however, issued a stern warning to Tehran, stating that failure to reach an agreement could trigger severe consequences.
According to him, the United States is prepared to target critical infrastructure, including power plants and bridges, if Iran rejects what he described as a “reasonable deal.”
Trump also signalled the commencement of a blockade of Iranian ports, further heightening concerns over a possible escalation in hostilities in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil transit route, has remained a flashpoint in the standoff, with the latest developments raising fears of wider geopolitical and economic implications.
