The Zamfara State Government on Wednesday organised a mass wedding for 100 couples selected from vulnerable groups across the 14 local government areas of the state.
Governor Dauda Lawal said the initiative was part of his administration’s efforts to support disadvantaged citizens and improve their living conditions.
As part of the programme, the government paid a dowry of N200,000 for each bride on behalf of the grooms.
In addition, each bride received N50,000 as start-up support to engage in small-scale businesses in their new homes.
The Emir of Kaura Namoda, Sanusi Muhammad Asha, stood in as guardian for the brides and formally handed them over in marriage during the ceremony.
The governor also presented marriage certificates and household items to the couples, urging them to uphold peace, understanding and mutual respect in their homes.
He advised the newlyweds to build harmonious families capable of attracting divine blessings.
In a show of support, senior government officials contributed N5m to assist the couples.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Zamfara Hisbah Commission, Umar Hassan, commended the state government for constructing permanent offices for the commission in all local government areas.
He noted that the development would enhance the commission’s operations and improve service delivery across the state.
