A viral video circulating on social media has stirred public concern after it showed an elderly man allegedly attempting to lure a 13-year-old girl hawking cocoyam.
The footage, which surfaced on X on Friday, captured the moment the minor was approached by the man under the guise of patronising her.
The situation, however, reportedly took a disturbing turn, prompting an eyewitness who filmed the incident from a nearby building to intervene.
In the video, the man was heard asking the girl her name, to which she responded, “Adijat.”
He subsequently asked if she would consider being in a relationship with him, a remark that drew immediate attention from the individual recording the scene.
Challenging the man’s conduct, the witness questioned the appropriateness of such a comment directed at a minor.
In response, the man denied any wrongdoing, insisting that he was only joking and intended to buy cocoyam from the girl.
However, the girl later confirmed the exchange, stating that the man asked her if she would date him.
According to her, she declined, citing the age difference, after which the man allegedly made further remarks and left, claiming he was going to get money.
When confronted again, the man refuted the allegation, maintaining that he only engaged her in a casual conversation about her well-being and family.
The incident attracted the attention of passersby, some of whom condemned the man’s actions.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
The development comes weeks after a similar incident was reported involving a man accused of attempting to lure a young girl hawking avocados with money for illicit purposes.
