Trump Revives Push For White House Ballroom After Shooting Scare At Correspondents’ Dinner

United States President Donald Trump has renewed his push for a controversial new ballroom project within the White House complex, citing Saturday’s shooting incident during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner as proof that stronger security infrastructure is needed.

In a statement posted on his Truth Social account, Trump said the incident highlighted long-standing demands by past presidents, the military, Secret Service, and law enforcement agencies for a large and secure ballroom to be built within White House grounds.

According to Trump, the proposed facility would feature top-level military-grade security and eliminate vulnerabilities linked to hosting events in less secure locations. He claimed the recent incident would not have happened if the ballroom had already been completed.

Trump also criticised an ongoing lawsuit challenging the project, describing it as baseless and politically motivated. He insisted construction was on budget and ahead of schedule, adding that nothing should delay its completion.

The comments came after gunfire erupted on Saturday during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton, prompting the emergency evacuation of Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and First Lady Melania Trump.

Authorities later identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Allen of Torrance, California. He was reportedly armed with a shotgun, handgun, and several knives before charging a security checkpoint, where he was subdued by agents.

A Secret Service officer was struck during the incident but survived because of protective gear. Investigators said the suspect acted alone and is expected to face multiple federal charges, while terrorism-related charges remain under consideration.
