A former member of the House of Representatives and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Kayode Oladele, has said opposition parties stand little chance of unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, citing weak structures and lack of coherent vision.
Oladele, who spoke in Abeokuta, Ogun State, argued that most opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress, are hampered by leadership crises, ideological gaps and organisational weaknesses.
He said political competition in Nigeria had moved beyond mere agitation for power, stressing that citizens now demand credible ideas and workable governance plans.
“Nigeria has gone beyond politics driven by agitation alone. What Nigerians want now are ideas, direction and realistic solutions. Unfortunately, what we see is ambition without a clear governance blueprint,” he said.
The APC chieftain added that opposition parties had failed to present a unified development agenda capable of addressing the country’s socio-economic challenges, insisting that their focus appears largely centred on removing the incumbent government rather than offering alternatives.
Oladele expressed support for ongoing reforms under President Tinubu, saying they were already laying the foundation for long-term economic stability despite current hardships.
He also pointed to internal divisions within opposition parties as a major disadvantage ahead of 2027, noting that unresolved leadership disputes and court cases were weakening their political structures.
“With party primaries approaching, some opposition parties are still battling internal conflicts. Any party that cannot manage itself will struggle to convince Nigerians it can manage a country,” he said.
The former Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission further alleged that criticisms of the current administration are partly driven by interests affected by ongoing reforms.
According to him, “Those who benefitted from the old order are uncomfortable with reforms that promote transparency and accountability, and that is fueling much of the opposition noise.”
Oladele urged APC members to remain united and focused on governance delivery, saying performance would ultimately determine voter confidence in 2027.
He added that the impact of current policies would become clearer before the next general election, further strengthening public trust in the administration.
