Supporters of Peter Obi have called for the resignation of Dayo Ekong, the South-West chairperson of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), following allegations of past actions against Obi during her time in the Labour Party (LP).
Ekong, who previously served as Lagos chairperson of a faction of the Labour Party led by Julius Abure, left the party in April alongside Dudu Manuga, citing internal leadership disputes and ongoing legal battles. She later joined the NDC and was appointed as one of its national vice-chairpersons representing the South-West.
After Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso officially joined the NDC, Ekong publicly welcomed them, describing their move as a positive step for the party’s growth and national transformation.
However, her appointment has sparked backlash online, with several Obi supporters accusing her of previously undermining his position within the Labour Party. Critics allege that her actions contributed to internal crises that affected Obi’s political standing at the time.
Some commentators on social media questioned her credibility and suitability for a leadership role within the NDC, urging the party to reconsider her position to avoid repeating past political challenges.
Despite the criticisms, there has been no official response from Ekong or the NDC leadership regarding the calls for her resignation.
