Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has criticised the process surrounding the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, raising concerns over why other individuals are handling his nomination forms.
Sowore’s reaction comes after the Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, signed Tinubu’s presidential nomination forms, reportedly worth ₦100 million.
In a statement issued through his media aide, Umahi described the move as a strong endorsement of Tinubu’s leadership. He said it reflects a commitment to sustaining the administration’s policies and achievements, particularly in infrastructure development such as road construction and rehabilitation.
Umahi added that Tinubu remains well-positioned to continue ongoing projects and deepen national development, stressing that consistent leadership is key to achieving long-term goals. He also called on Nigerians to support the administration’s continuity.
However, reacting via his X (formerly Twitter) account, Sowore questioned why the President was not personally involved in obtaining and completing his own nomination forms. He suggested that such an arrangement could allow Tinubu to distance himself from potential controversies, especially regarding the information contained in the forms.
Sowore wrote that the situation raises concerns about transparency, asking whether the process is designed to shield the President from scrutiny over his qualifications.
