The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, David Mark, has said the defection of former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso would not weaken the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mark stated this on Wednesday while addressing members of the Forum of ADC former and serving federal lawmakers in Abuja.
The former Senate President acknowledged that the departure of the two politicians would have some impact on the party but insisted that the development would instead motivate members to intensify efforts toward building a stronger political platform.
According to him, the ADC remains committed to presenting credible candidates capable of winning elections across the country in 2027.
“No doubt, the exit of Obi and Kwankwaso has its impact, but it will spur us to work harder,” Mark said.
The Benue-born politician expressed confidence that the current challenges confronting the party would eventually strengthen its resolve and position it for electoral success.
Obi and Kwankwaso had on Sunday announced their exit from the ADC and moved to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, citing lingering court cases and internal divisions within the party as reasons for their decision.
