The Kebbi State Government has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for reviving the long-delayed Sokoto-Badagry super-highway project, describing the initiative as a major boost for national development and economic growth.
Speaking in Birnin Kebbi during an inspection tour with members of the presidential media team and Renewed Hope Ambassadors, the Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Umar Tafida, said the project demonstrates Tinubu’s commitment to connecting different regions of the country through modern infrastructure.
According to Tafida, the longest section of the highway, covering about 258 kilometres, passes through Kebbi State. He explained that the road would strengthen trade, agriculture, and transportation by linking the north-west to the south-west.
He noted that farmers and traders would benefit greatly from the project as agricultural products such as rice, onions, and tomatoes could be transported faster to markets across the country.
“Transport and development go hand in hand. Farmers will now find it easier to move equipment and transport farm produce to markets quickly,” Tafida said.
The deputy governor stated that the highway project had remained unexecuted for decades after it was first proposed during the administration of former President Shehu Shagari before Tinubu reviewed and approved its implementation.
He also commended the quality of construction work on the project, including the use of concrete pavement and solar-powered streetlights, while assuring that the state government is working closely with security agencies to protect workers and host communities.
Speaking during the visit, Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, said the visible progress on the project has countered criticism from those who doubted the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development.
Dare explained that the visit by the presidential media team and Renewed Hope Ambassadors was aimed at showcasing projects executed by the Tinubu administration in Kebbi State and across the north-west region.
The delegation inspected sections of the 1,068-kilometre highway corridor during the tour.
