Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday held a strategic meeting with the factional leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Tanimu Turaki.
The meeting comes less than 48 hours after Jonathan disclosed that he was consulting widely over a possible return to the presidential race ahead of the 2027 general election.
The former president had on Thursday addressed a group of supporters who gathered outside his office in Abuja to urge him to contest the presidency.
Responding to the calls, Jonathan noted that seeking the nation’s highest office required careful consideration and extensive consultations.
“You are asking me to contest the next election. The presidential race is not a computer game. But I have heard you, and I will consult widely,” he had said.
Friday’s meeting with the Turaki-led PDP faction has further fuelled speculation about Jonathan’s political future and possible alignment ahead of the 2027 polls.
Although details of the closed-door meeting were not immediately made public, political observers believe the engagement may not be unconnected with ongoing consultations surrounding the next presidential election.
The PDP has continued to witness internal divisions in recent months, with different blocs positioning ahead of the 2027 political season.
